5 Skincare Mistakes Anti-Aging Experts Never Make

Every woman may wish that her skin always remained as smooth, moist and soft as a baby’s, but time and the environment around us makes this impossible.  That said, proper skincare can help to slow down the damaging effects caused by time and the environment, and allow for more graceful aging.  And since none of us possess the power to stop the forward motion of time altogether, learning the tricks for graceful aging is highly desirable.  With that in mind, the following are five skincare mistakes to avoid at all costs:

Sleeping with Your Makeup On

While most of us understand that sleeping in our makeup can lead to clogged pores and oil glands, dryness, redness, inflammation, dark spots, fine lines and brittle eyelashes, we are all guilty of making this mistake.  It only takes a few moments to thoroughly clean your skin before bed, but it makes a huge difference in your skin’s health and appearance.

Appropriate Sunscreen Use

I can’t stress enough how important it is for you to get proper, healthy sun exposure every day. The Vitamin D our bodies make from the sun’s rays improves our overall health and well-being. However, if you are planning on spending more time than usual in the sun, make sure to apply a broad spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or more. This will help you balance good and bad sun exposure.

Popping Your Pimples

No one wants to live with these unsightly blemishes, and it can sometimes seem that with minimal pressure you can empty a pimple so it may heal faster.  However, popping pimples is one of the worst things you can do to your skin because it releases bacteria onto the surrounding skin and can cause scarring, irritation and wrinkles.  You can use a clean washcloth to wash your face, and pimples will drain on their own if they are ready.  If you absolutely cannot stand the idea of leaving pimples to fade away on their own, consider coming in for a facial.  Our skin experts can help reduce the scarring blemishes cause.

Over-Exfoliating Your Face

Exfoliating your face can be a pleasant experience because it leads to softer, smoother skin, but over-exfoliating can damage your skin.  Experts recommend that you exfoliate no more than two or three times a week so that you don’t remove your skin’s protective barrier and cause inflammation.

Using Toxic Products on Your Skin

You may love the way your lips pop and your eyes shine when you apply your favorite makeup products to your skin, but there’s a chance that these products are loaded with toxic chemical preservatives, like free radicals, that harm and age your skin.  You should always read a product’s ingredients before choosing to use it on your skin, and stay away from those that contain toxic ingredients.

Your skin is a delicate organ that can glow radiantly if properly cared for.  By avoiding the above skincare mistakes, you are well on the way toward achieving the goal of aging gracefully.

Love,

Gen
