9 Simple Tips to Get The Most Out of Your Massage

Massage is great for your overall health and well-being. I’m serious! While some may think massage is merely an indulgent hobby, research tells us that massage actually reduces muscle tension, pain, anxiety, and stress. It boosts blood flow and supports immune health! 

Whether you make massage a regular part of your self-care practice or save it as a special treat, here are a few simple ways to help you get the most out of your massage.

Get Comfortable

Wear comfy clothes, use the restroom beforehand and try not to be hungry (or too full) for your massage appointment.

Eliminate Distractions

Leave your phone in the car if you can or have it on silent (not vibrate) as it will mentally remove you from the massage. If you can, try to not schedule a pressing appointment right after.

Set an Intention

Before your massage decide what you want to get out of your session and, then set an intention on it happening. This could be to feel relief in your back or to improve your range of motion or simply to feel more relaxed. 

Allow Yourself To Check Out

Thank your body for all it does for you, and check out. Allow youself to fall asleep if you want.


We’re not suggesting you need to be overly chatty, but letting the therapist know when something is uncomfortable or when it feels right can go a long way to ensuring you get the massage you want. This is so, so, sooooo important and makes a noticeable difference. 

Focus on Your Breath Work

Breath work is the practice of putting your attention solely on your breathing. Doing this will allow your mind to stop wandering and to be in the moment. 


Drink plenty of water as well as minerals and electrolytes to restore proper hydration after your massage. This will keep you feeling great.


To keep up with your mobility gains, stretch after your massage. This allows the benefits of a massage to stick around longer.Apply Heat

Drawing a warm bath or putting the seat warmer on in the car will help keep your muscles relaxed. Add magnesium to your bath if you can.
