Collagen Induction Therapy: The Other Name for Micro Needling
Anti-aging services are some of the most popular services we offer here at Botanica Day Spa—understandably so. I mean, who doesn’t want to turn back the clock on wrinkles and age spots? Our hands are already up and waving!
One of the most exciting parts of being an aesthetician is having the opportunity to learn about and try new, cutting edge skin treatments and technologies as they are developed. Micro Needling, or Collagen Induction Therapy is an effective skin treatment we offer our clients at Botanica and has become a staple among our facial services! This article details why you should be hopping on board for this version of Micro Needling too.
WHAT IS MICRO NEEDLING?
So just what is micro needling? Don’t let the word “needle” frighten you. This treatment is minimally invasive and works by triggering the skin’s own repair mechanisms. Using a micro needling pen with very fine points, small channels are created in the skin to stimulate growth factors and the production of collagen and elastin—the natural anti-aging proteins which exist in our skin.
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS?
Micro needling is very unique in that it calls upon the skin’s natural healing processes to fill the microscopic wounds that are created by micro needling. This stimulates the production of new collagen and elastin while improving the texture and firmness of skin, and reducing scars, and reduce pore size. Last but not least, micro needled skin allows for the active ingredients (such as vitamin C, hyaluronic acid and others) to penetrate more deeply and effectively. This allows it to absorb the ingredients much more easily, giving you even better results from your skin care products!
Some of our clients have reported more firm, radiant skin even after one micro needling collagen induction therapy session. It doesn’t take long to see fabulous results, but we certainly recommend regular sessions to continue the stellar functions for it! On top of the normal benefits of micro needling, it’s recommended for treating:
- Acne scars
- Age spots
Yes, we’re already totally game for this treatment, what about you?
WHAT TO EXPECT AFTER MICRO NEEDLING COLLAGEN INDUCTION THERAPY
Your aesthetician will go over with you any special instructions following your collagen induction therapy session, which might include staying out of the sun or avoiding certain chemicals in your skincare regimen. Some people’s skin is more sensitive than others, but our aestheticians at Botanica know the right gradients to start you out at to ensure it’s not too much for your skin!
To note, micro needling can be performed on all skin colors and types and is often preferred over laser treatments as there is no risk of burning. As opposed to laser treatments or chemical peels, micro needling can be done on sensitive areas around the eyes, mouth, hands, and chest. This treatment is customizable and during your consultation with the aesthetician, you will point out areas which are sensitive or which you want to tackle more aggressively.
Depending on your skin, micro needling is usually recommended every four weeks.
Collagen Induction Therapy is a wonderful anti-aging and rejuvenating treatment for addressing wrinkles, age spots, scarring, and hyperpigmentation. This treatment is not suitable for clients with open wounds, any current skin infections, recent radiation treatments or who are pregnant or breastfeeding. Micro needling is not recommended for those with very sensitive or acne-prone skin.
If you’re a do-it-yourselfer or short on time like many of our clients, at-home micro needling systems are sold at the spa as well and are a great option if you are interested in learning proper self-treatment technique! Talk to our aestheticians and we’ll recommend, based on your skin type, a micro needling self-care product and program you can easily maintain at home!
