How to Take Care of Your Eyes

The eyes are the main focal point of your face. How we express our emotions has a lot to do with our eyes, thus if you have bags under your eyes you wind up with a tired appearance. Wrinkles around your eyes might make you look aged. Our eyes have very superficial capillaries as well which can give you an aged look as well.

The skin around our eyes is quite thin and in constant movement throughout the day as we are blinking, smiling or squinting. We have to be extra careful with this area because the area around the eyes has very few oil glands, which means this area lacks moisture compared to other parts of the body. Knowing how to take care of your eyes is not only important for looking your best, but feeling bright and fresh from the inside out.

The Eyes Are Under a Lot of Stress

The eyes endure stress from sun exposure, smoking, environmental pollution and a natural loss in elasticity as we age. This loss in elasticity occurs from the constant tugging and pulling movements we put this area of the skin through. The rubbing of this delicate area due to allergies, crying, makeup removal and removing/inserting contact lenses attributes to sagging of the skin.

All of these things mean the sensitive area of our eyes needs extra care from us to keep it looking smooth, fresh and flawless.

Caring For Your Eyes: Be Gentle!

The area around the eye is one of the most sensitive, so when choosing a product you also want to make sure it is gentle and non-irritating. The ideal product for this would contain properties that are anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant, calming and soothing. Look for something rich in vitamins and skin-plumping elements as well. When taking care of your under eye area, make sure you cleanse the area, remove all traces of make up and moisturize generously.

Aside from topical products, there are lots of simple yet effective ways to keep the skin around your eyes healthy:

  • Drink plenty of water (it will help the elasticity of skin).
  • Don’t smoke cigarettes (it constricts the capillaries).
  • Stay out of the sun as much as you can.,
  • Wear sunglasses so you don’t squint
  • Get enough rest.
  • Limit your alcohol intake
  • Use cotton balls when removing makeup for less tugging and pulling.

The delicate and sensitive skin around the eye is very thin and is lacking in oil glands which is why we are required to put in a little extra effort to keep the area healthy and revitalized. Without a proper skin/eye care regimen we are likely to get bags, wrinkles, uneven pigmentation, age spots, superficial capillaries and sagging. These effects are easily preventable, and with these tips applied over time you’ll have beautiful, bright and healthy eyes!
