5 Things You Didn’t Know About Nail Polish

Nail polish is a staple in every girl’s beauty stash.  From our standard colors that can go with any outfit, to those vibrant shades that can really make a statement, nail polish is an easy way to spruce up your look in an instant.  But what do you actually know about nail polish?  There’s much more to nail lacquer than you might realize!  Here are some interesting tidbits about our favorite nail friend that you probably don’t know.

The Color Connection

There is a strong link between color and human emotions.  Believe it or not, your choice in nail color is rarely ever random.  Studies have suggested that color preferences are typically influenced by our subconscious memories.  Feeling like a shiny red manicure? That could indicate that you are feeling excited.  Sporting a cool blue polish?  The color blue has been associated with feelings of comfort and a sense of security.

The Downside to Dark Nails

Fall and winter are the perfect times to experiment with dark shades of makeup.  However, because darker polish colors use higher amounts of pigmentation, it tends to chip faster than lighter colored polishes.  To make your dark polish last longer, try using lighter strokes when applying the color.

Meat, Cheese, and…Nail Polish??

It may sound strange, but storing your nail polishes in the fridge can actually increase the shelf life of your favorite polishes.  Make sure the lid is tightly secured and the bottle is stored upright to avoid any spilling accidents.

The Necessity of Base and Top Coats

I get it.  We barely have time to put on one coat of polish let alone base and top coats.  We’ve all been guilty of skipping these important steps; however, top and base coats are essential to the longevity and quality of your manicure.  Taking the few extra minutes to apply both can help you avoid chips and stains that will just cause you to have to redo your manicure anyway.

Take a Break

Even though you may feel totally naked without your nails polished, it’s important to take a break every once in a while.  Every three weeks or so, take a 3-day break from nail polish in order to maintain the health of your natural nails.

Many of us still struggle with perfecting at-home manicures.  If you are one of those people, trust your nails to one of our expert nail technicians with one of our pampering, luxurious manicure (or pedicure!) services.

Love,

Gen
