5 Tricks to a Longer Lasting Regular Manicure

We all feel so much better about ourselves when our nails are done. It may sound silly, but think about it: you feel more professional, more put-together, and it adds to your confidence (not to mention, amps up your outfit so much more)! With such a variety of different shapes, colors, and designs to choose, we end up picking the style that most describes us, our favorite colors, and our personal styles. We know how much you love your manicure, so we’ve gathered some information on what you can do to preserve it for as long as possible!

How to Make Your Manicure Last Longer

Whether your nerves are getting the best of you and you’re picking at your nails, or you had one too many dishes to wash by hand last night, here are 5 things that you can do to make your manicure last longer.

1. Go a Little Shorter

The longer your nails are, the more they are likely to break. Try to go for a shorter cut so that your nails can stay strong, while also not getting in the way. Your nails don’t have to be Kylie Jenner long to be gorgeous, so opt for short square, short with rounded edges, or even subtle almond shapes! You can still have fierce nails without the length factor.

2. Go all the Way to the Edges

Our manicurists ensure that your nails are perfectly painted. The final stroke of polish on the edge of your nail, especially on your thumbs and index fingers, will prevent wear and tear and keep your color locked in for longer. Typically, nail polish will chip or gel nails will peel because the polish wasn’t laid out all the way to the sides of your nails. Don’t be shy to ask your manicurist to go all the way to the edge! They don’t always know the way you want your nails done, and a manicure is for you, not anyone else. Tell them your preferences, and it’ll benefit you so much more!

3. Reapply a Topcoat to the Edges of Your Nails

To keep that polish on the edges of your nails, you can reapply a top coat every couple of days to keep the color vibrant and not going anywhere! This will keep the polish sealed in and prevent chipping. This is a super simple trick that will definitely help your manicure out in the long run.

4. Use Cuticle Oil

Cuticle oil is incredibly helpful with keeping nail beds and the skin surrounding your nails healthy and moist. Keeping these areas moist with cuticle oil can help ward off hangnails, peeling skin, and yucky-looking fingers! Apply it right before bed, while you’re at work, or when you’re enjoying a bath (just keep them from getting wet for at least 10 mins to receive the benefit of it penetrating your skin).

5. Avoid Warm Water

Make a whole day out of manicure day — don’t do the dishes either! Submerging your hands in warm water can interfere with your polish’s drying process and can lead to dents, bumps, and other imperfections. If you really do need to do the dishes, make sure you wear gloves (or ask your hubby or kids to do it for you – teamwork makes the dream work, including your dreamy manicure)!

When worst comes to worst, and your nails are super grown out, you can even add sparkles to the base to make it look ombre. We know how much you love how your nails look when you first walk out of the salon, so these 5 tips for making your manicure last longer will really help keep that love lasting!
